五月的第二个星期日是母亲节。每当母亲节这一天，人们籍着节日思此即彼，而想起母亲的养育之恩、想起母亲的辛劳与付出、想起母亲伟大的母爱。在母亲节的这一天子女们纷纷用不同的方式表达对母亲的感恩与报恩。

The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day. On this special day, people cherish one another, they think of their mother ’s upbringing, the mother ’s hard work, dedication and the mother ’s great maternal love. On this day, the sons and daughters express their gratitude and repay their gratitude to their mother in different ways.

然而，孝不仅是某一朝某一夕的体现，而是应该时刻在心的。佛教素来对孝道极为重视，遍览佛经，佛陀以孝道自行化他的行为十分常见。《大乘本生心地观经》报恩品中言，“上报四重恩，下济三涂苦。”四重恩是指：父母恩、国王恩、众生恩、三宝恩。连世尊亦常感叹父母恩重，难于报答，教诲四众弟子要时时念父母恩，报父母恩！

However, filial piety is not only a manifestation of a particular day but should always be in the heart. Buddhism has always placed great importance on filial piety. Looking at the Buddhist scriptures, it is very common for Buddha on his own accord to influence others with filial piety. “The Sutra on the Contemplation of Mahayana State of Mind of the Previous Incarnation" states, "Repay the four Important gratitude, and relieve the three existence of suffering." The four Important gratitude refer to Parental gratitude, Ruler’s gratitude, All Sentient Being gratitude, and the Triple Gem gratitude. The Buddha also often lamented parents' gratitude and difficult to repay. He taught and reminded the four groups of disciples to always cherish their parents' gratitude and repay them.

佛教重视孝道，《佛说父母恩难报经》《地藏菩萨本愿经》《佛说盂兰盆经》等都是佛门孝经。在佛教的许多小故事中，也体现了佛教最朴素的孝道精神。

Buddhism attaches importance to filial piety,

"Sutra on The Buddha Speaks about the Gratitude of Parents and the Difficulty in Repaying them”,

"Sutra on the Original Vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva",

"Buddha Speaks the Ullambana Sutra"

and so on are all Buddhist filial piety scriptures. In many small stories of Buddhism, it also embodies the simplest spirit of filial piety in Buddhism.

報恩品

悲母在堂，名之為富；

悲母不在，名之為貧。

悲母在時，名為日中；

悲母死時，名為日沒。

The chapter on Paying Gratitude

The presence of one's compassionate mother

at home is called wealth;

The absence of one's compassionate mother

at home is called poverty.

The presence of one's compassionate mother

is known as sunrise;

The passing away of one's compassionate mother

is known as nightfall.

【藏慧長老】筆述: 「世界上有一种人能為你无私地奉献她所有的一切，为了你的微笑与幸福，因为你是她的子女，她就是你的母亲。今天是俗称母亲节，让我祝福世间所有的母亲们安乐无憾。南无大慈大悲观世音菩萨摩诃萨。」

【Venerable Tsang Hui】wrote: "There is a person in this world who can selflessly dedicate everything for you, your smile and happiness. it is because you are her son or daughter, and this person is your mother. Today is commonly known as Mother's Day.  Let me wish all mothers in the world with happiness without regrets. We pay homage to the Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva."
